At DiscoverE summer camps, kids from Grade 1 - 11 are learning while they’re playing—they’re getting involved in a lot of hands-on activities, making discoveries about engineering and science through building projects, experiments, and letting their imaginations run free.

March is National Engineering and Geosciences Month and U of A engineering students, through the Engineering Students’ Society and the local Engineers Without Borders student group, celebrate it in a big way with events being held all month.

Water research a growing concern
At the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering, approximately 30 professors and 300 researchers are conducting research related to our most precious resource—water. What’s at stake? Globally, 1.2 billion people do not have sufficient access to clean water; 900 million lack access to basic sanitation. While the world’s population tripled in the past century, water use increased seven-fold.

GNCTR 2012 team hits the road
Edmonton—Nearly 40 U of A engineering students are taking part in the annual Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race at Canada Olympic Park Feb. 8 – 12, with a futuristic-looking toboggan that should perform well in the fast lane.
