Putting environmental impact on ICE

The Faculty of Engineering’s new Innovation Centre for Engineering (ICE) will demonstrate best practices in energy conservation and efficiency.

Dozens of exciting and innovative designs and outside-the-box ideas will reduce and recycle energy and enhance the work environment for occupants. From its conception, energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental impact have been driving the design of ICE. Even its location meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for site selection—no green space is being lost. Technologies such as motion-sensing light switches and low-flow water fixtures will be used throughout the building.

ICE has been designed to achieve, at minimum, the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) LEED Green Building Rating System Silver certification for Core and Shell development. As of September 2011, the design and construction status indicates that LEED Gold level certification will most likely be achieved.
