Course Descriptions and Requirements
During your Engineering Degree you will have to take a wide variety of courses covering huge subject areas. When planning your degree it is important to know what your courses will cover to not only help prepare you for the course but to also ensure you are taking courses you are interested in.
Full course descriptions are available through
Bear Tracks using the Browse Course Catalogue search feature. The Browse Course Catalogue search feature is available to registered users or to guests. Full course listings can also be found in the U of A’s
Academic Calendar. These descriptions also list all prerequisites or co-requisites, where applicable, for every class to help you plan out your future years.
Glossary
Complimentary Studies Elective: these courses are designed to expose Engineering students to the thought process and practices in arts, communication, engineering economics, humanities and management. Suitable courses can be chosen from the Complimentary Studies Electives - Engineering Table II.
Corequisite: This is a course that must be taken in conjunction with the one for which a student is registering.
Courses Extra to Degree: These are courses successfully completed while registered in a Faculty of Engineering program which are not being used for degree credit.
Junior Course: These are courses numbered 199 or lower.
Prerequisite: This is a condition that must be met before a course can be taken. Prerequisites are noted in the course description.
Senior Course: These are courses numbered 200 to 599.
Technical Electives: These are courses that students choose to enhance or specialize a student's specific area of study. These courses are required for degree completion but students will be able to choose from a set of specific technical electives to customize their degree.
