Water Resources Engineering


Alberta's Oldman River dam regulates downstream flows by storing water in an on-stream reservoir for controlled release when required. This is a photo of the 1995 flood.

Water resources engineers deal with the control and utilization of water by society. They study the physical processes of water flow essential to the understanding, protection, and improvement of the environment. Working in this area, you might be employed as a consulting engineer designing reservoirs and dams or work in a government agency modeling floods caused by ice jams and heavy rainfall.
